SPRINGFIELD – Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is pushing back on one of the attack ads against her.
The Springfield Democrat, who wants to send incumbent Republican Congressman Rodney Davis back to Taylorville, says it’s actually okay that her husband is a lobbyist.
“When I get to Congress, I am going to be accountable for my votes,” Londrigan told a news conference Wednesday outside the federal building in downtown Springfield. “It is my name on the ballot, and, as far as my husband, who I adore, it’s 2020, and I don’t think women need to be judged by their husbands’ jobs.”
Health care is a huge issue for both candidates. Someone at Londrigan’s event criticized Davis for his frequent mention of his cancer survivor wife. Londrigan says she got into the race because of the expense and red tape resulting from her son’s tick bite in 2009.
