BLOOMINGTON – Central Illinois Regional Airport on Tuesday announced a new non-stop service to Detroit.
CIRA Director Carl Olson said Delta Airlines will offer the service starting Oct. 11. Olson said this service will help business travelers and the local business community.
“When we can offer more choices and options, price competition and opportunities for growth, that is wonderful for our community,” said Olson during a news conference Tuesday. “Especially when we look at this new service coming from Detroit on Delta into CIRA, this provides another critical point of connectivity, linking the world to central Illinois, and helping our community to welcome new investment and new business opportunities.”
One company happy about the news – Rivian Automotive, which is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan, just west of Detroit.
“To have a direct flight it will help us accelerate the ability to get the right people here, to this area, to the plant, to be able to start production,” said Kristen Knittel, Rivian’s group manager.
