BLOOMINGTON – Despite rainy conditions Saturday morning, walkers in Bloomington laced up their shoes to help support breast cancer research.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation celebrates 35 years of walking events this year. However, due to the pandemic, this year’s event looked a little different.
According to our news partner HOI ABC, organizers reformatted the annual “More Than Pink Walk,” to a virtual format this year. Participates chose to either hit the pavement or the treadmill, all with the shared goal of hitting 10,000 steps, or just about the length of a 5K.
The foundation’s marketing director, Katie Parker Cox, was one of those walkers.
“It’s sad that we can’t all come together but it is very exciting to be able to connect and participate,” Parker said.
This year 150 participants signed up for the walk, which is down from previous years. According to Parker however, thanks to the virtual format people can still sign up, earn their T-shirt and donate to support the foundation’s mission.
So far they have raised $44,000 this year, according to Parker.
Those looking to participate can sign up on the Susan G. Komen website.
