McLean County adds 9 new cases of COVID-19; Bloomington testing site stays busy

BLOOMINGTON – McLean County health officials on Wednesday announced nine new cases of coronavirus, bringing the county total to 411.

There are two people currently hospitalized and 326 have been released from isolation and are considered recovered, according to McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight. There have been 15 COVID-related deaths in the county.

More than 19,600 tests have been resulted for a cumulative positivity rate of 2.1%. The county’s rolling seven-day positivity rate is 2.2%.

Meanwhile, the COVID testing site at the McLean County Fairgrounds saw another busy day on Tuesday. The McLean County Emergency Management Agency said 468 people were tested, which is a new record.

The MCHD announced its partnering with Chestnut Health Systems to expand testing in rural parts of the county. Testing will be available Thursday at the Colfax Village office.

“Testing helps to identify those infected with COVID-19  and allow public health partners to quickly notify and quarantine close contacts and prevent further spread of the virus,” said McKnight. “Testing is just one piece of the toolkit to address COVID.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday announced 1,598 new cases of coronavirus and 23 additional deaths. The state’s seven-day rolling positivity rate is 3.2%.
