BLOOMINGTON – A fire Monday morning at Epiphany Farms in downtown Bloomington started and ended in a laundry room.
Bloomington fire crews were called around 8 a.m. to the restaurant located at 220 East Front Street. Bloomington Fire Department spokesperson Eric Davison said a maintenance worker noticed smoke coming from the laundry room. Oily rags ignited and other linens in the room went up in flames. The worker grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out a majority of the blaze and reclosed the door causing the fire to snuff itself out, according to Davison.
“A couple of takeaways from this situation, the first one being doors closed save lives,” said Davison. “Over and over we post pictures of houses on fire and we go to the room with the door closed and it looks like the fire was never in that room.”
Davison said no injuries were reported and damage to the restaurant was limited to the laundry room. A dollar estimate of damage was not available.
