SPRINGFIELD – According to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) website, the Pontiac and Logan Correctional Centers have positive COVID-19 cases.
Pontiac has one case; who is an inmate. Logan has five cases; including four staff and one inmate.
When Heart of Illinois ABC requested an interview the the IDOC spokesperson, we were directed to their website and the governor’s daily press briefings for information.
Statewide, the IDOC website says there are 220 confirmed cases in their system as of Friday. 134 are inmates while 86 are staff.
Their website explains what happens when there’s a case confirmed at an IDOC facility. It states, “Facilities with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are placed on lockdown, which means there is no movement around the facility except for medical care.”
It goes on to say employees who come in contact with people in isolation and quarantine are wearing “full personal protective equipment (PPE),” noting that all staff are wearing some PPE at all times.
