LEROY – LeRoy police have issued a child safety alert after a teenage girl told officers a man tried to lure her into a minivan.
The girl was walking her dog around 2 p.m. Tuesday between the 200 and 500 block of North Main Street when she was approached by a white minivan, according to police. The van pulled next to the girl and a man asked if she was tired and if she needed a break. Authorities say the girl told the man “no” multiple times before he drove away in an unknown direction.
Police say the driver never exited the van while speaking to the girl. She described seeing the van driving unnaturally slow in the area before being approached.
The driver is described as a white man in his mid-50s to early 60s with white hair and a large build. Police say he was wearing a green hat and a dark blue or black jacket. The make and model of the minivan is unknown.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or any similar incident is asked to contact the LeRoy Police Department at 309-962-3310 or 309-888-5030.
