NORMAL – The community has come through for Normal Police officers seeking protection from COVID-19 when they’re responding to calls.

The police department reached out on social media Thursday looking for face masks, specifically the N-95 respirator masks that helps filter out particles and infectious diseases.

Friday evening, Police Chief Rick Bleichner said the department received about 200 face masks, which he said are enough for now.

The McLean County Emergency Management Agency, a public safety agency, and some community organizations sent some of their face masks to Normal Police.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
