Bloomington looking to replace Coliseum video, scoreboard

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council plans to vote Monday on approving a new video and scoreboard for the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

“Not only is the current scoreboard and video system over ten years old, we can no longer get parts,” said City Manager David Hales. “Even the software system is no longer being serviced.”

Hales added the city has a contractual obligation to provide working video and scoreboard equipment for both the sports teams and concerts hosted at the Coliseum.

“We will not be able to meet those contract obligations if we do not replace the current outdated system,” he said.

If approved, Hales said the project, which is budgeted for the current fiscal year, would cost $1.39 million.

“We’re asking the council to approve a contract with Daktronics, which is probably the premier video and scoreboard vender in the area,” Hales said.

Daktronics is the same company which installed the video board at Illinois State University’s Hancock Stadium. The company also put in the left field video board at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
