BLOOMINGTON – The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest travel times of the year and a local law enforcement agency is cracking down on impaired and unbuckled drivers.
In conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Bloomington Police Department has started a high-visibility crackdown, which will run through the Thanksgiving weekend until Dec. 2.
“Thanksgiving is highly traveled and last year IDOT said there were 15 fatal motor vehicle crashes on that day,” said BPD Public Information Officer John Fermon. “One death is too many, so if a seat belt can save a life that is what we want to encourage through this campaign.”
People are also advised to plan ahead for a sober ride home.
One more tip – stay off your phones, which are a huge contributory cause to accidents, according to Fermon.
