BLOOMINGTON – Several Illinois lawmakers are weighing in after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
The impeachment inquiry comes after reports that Trump allegedly asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, while withholding millions of dollars in U.S. security aid.
Central Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) said the American people didn’t send lawmakers to Washington to rewrite the results of the 2016 election.
Impeachment should only be used with extreme caution and rooted in evidence and facts. Impeachment is divisive and nullifies the will of the American people. It is disappointing that so many Dems jumped to conclusions before reading the full transcript.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) said the impeachment inquiry is already negatively impacting Congress’ ability to get anything done.
Democrats seem intent on impeaching this president no matter the facts and again putting the cart before the horse. Impeachment is a very serious charge and will halt any progress on legislation important to my constituents.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said they both support the impeachment investigation.
His admission that he solicited negative info from the Pres. of Ukraine concerning his potential opponent, Joe Biden, while withholding $250M in US security aid for Ukraine is beneath the dignity of any President & by any reasonable legal standard merits an impeachment inquiry.

Federal law is clear: when an independent Inspector General determines that a whistleblower complaint is credible and a matter of “urgent concern,” the whistleblower complaint must be sent to Congress. Period. Donald Trump’s administration violated that law.

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) said both Democrats and Republicans should want to get to the bottom of whether the President put national security at risk for his own political gain.
Today’s action is a measured step to ensure the American people get the truth and the answers they deserve. This is a fact-finding mission.
