Riding clean energy on the road to Success

SPRINGFIELD– You probably have not heard of NRG, but it wants to elbow Exelon out of the way this fall veto session.

Judith Lagano, an executive with the New Jersey based-generation company, says the Competitive Clean Energy Act would apply a market-based approach to purchasing clean energy attributes.

Attributes?

“It’s a characteristic of that energy that’s carbon-free,” Lagano said during an interview at the Capitol. “That would correspond to the end game of a 100 percent renewable energy mix in 2050. Starting from 2020, you could set a target for every year.”

Lagano says Exelon wants to pay everybody less, which – she says – distorts the market.

NRG owns five facilities in Illinois – four in the Chicago area and one near Peoria.
