SPRINGFIELD– USDA crop statisticians are out with the weekly crop report for Illinois.
With the late, wet start, it could be a photo finish between the end of harvest and Thanksgiving dinner, right, Brad Summa?
“Probably so,” Summa says with a laugh. “It’s going to be a later harvest than usual, because of the later plant date and maturity. But I think another concern is the moisture content of the corn this year.”
The corn harvest has just begun, with 14 percent maturing, soybeans have begun dropping leaves, and just over 40 percent of those crops are in good to excellent condition, about 20 percent poor to very poor.
