BLOOMINGTON – A 25-year member of the Laborers International Union of North America Local 362 has been selected as the WJBC Laborer of the Year.

Terrance “Tracy” Whitecotton, leads the Laborers Apprenticeship and Training School in Stanford and has served on the Boys & Girls Club board.

Speaking with WJBC’s Marc Strauss, Whitecotton said he was honored to be chosen as the Laborer of the Year.

“I was speechless, I don’t know, I just do what I do because I like doing it,” said Whitecotton. “I was very surprised that I was nominated, especially knowing some of the people that have come before me and had the same honors.”

During his career, Whitecotton has worked on projects all across the Twin-Cities but said the best feeling is seeing his hard work come to life from the ground up.

“I started working on Labors Local 362 in 1989, basically spent most of my career doing dirt work type things,” added Whitecotton. “I worked multiple dirt work projects throughout Bloomington-Normal, but one that sticks out in my mind I did was almost all the athletic buildings out at Illinois Wesleyan. It makes me proud of some of the things that I did; I can go back and see what I did.”

Whitecotton will lead the Labor Day Parade on Sept. 2.
