BLOOMINGTON – Jurors in the Kirk Zimmerman murder trial heard from a woman who claims to have seen Zimmerman the night his ex-wife was murdered.
Maria Legg took the stand Monday and said she was recycling newspapers and other items at a church next to the plaza where Pam Zimmerman worked, and was also found dead.
Legg said on Nov. 3 2014, she looked to her right and saw Zimmerman rolling a huge plastic bag around 5-6 p.m. Legg said she had no idea what was in it, but she noted it was a large bag.
At this time the two locked eyes and, according to Legg, Zimmerman ran behind a dark car and hid there, until she got in her car and left.
The next day, Legg said her husband came home and asked if she should call the police.
Legg was crying profusely on the stand, so much so that the defense counsel is trying to have her impeached based on her “mental state.”
