BLOOMINGTON – One of Illinois’ most historic figures and an icon nationally is celebrating a birthday Tuesday.
It’s Abraham Lincoln’s 210th birthday and several places across the state are honoring his life.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield offered free admission Tuesday to celebrate and learn about the 16th President.
“America would not be America as we know it today without Abraham Lincoln,” said spokesperson Chris Wills.
Wills told WJBC’s Marc Strauss while Lincoln compiled a long list of achievements as president, there are many parts of his life like being poor, becoming a lawyer and losing a mother that people relate with.
“Whatever piece of the Lincoln biography connects with you its a way to learn about his life as a whole and the amazing legacy he left behind,” said Wills.
Some of Lincoln’s achievements include the Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation.
