PRINCEVILLE – A $3 million bond has been set for Matthew J. Roberts, 20 of Princeville, for the double homicide of Susan Brill de Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez Barron.
At a bond hearing Wednesday Roberts was charged with two counts of murder. A judge told Roberts he could face life in prison if convicted.
Roberts was appointed a public defender, as was 21-year-old Jose Ramirez on Tuesday, who was also charged with two counts of murder for the alleged slaying of his parents.
Authorities said Roberts was with Ramirez for the alleged murders. They said Roberts and Ramirez dropped the bodies over a bridge into the Spoon River. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed the identities of the bodies to our news partner WMBD-TV Tuesday night.
Roberts had been arrested for concealment of homicidal death, first-degree murder and obstruction of justice. He will appear back in court on Nov. 29, the same day as Ramirez.
Officials said Roberts told them that Ramirez had talked about killing his parents in the past.
At a press conference Wednesday Harwood said he believes the parents put up a fight.
