BLOOMINGTON – After Saturday’s shooting that took 11 lives at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh many members of the Jewish community have given their thoughts on the incident.
Rabbi Rebecca Dubowe of the Moses Montefiore Congregation in Bloomington was one of many in the Jewish community affected by the tragedy.
Rabbi Dubowe told WJBC’s Scott Miller the outreach of support has been unimaginable around McLean County.
“The response has been incredible and many of my congregants and myself have recieved emails, calls, and texts saying we’re right with you and how can we show our support,” said Dubowe.
The first ever deaf female Rabbi in the country, Dubowe said congregations of different religions came to MMC Sunday to show their love and support.
The gunman in custody is Robert Bowers, 46, as authorities say details of the shooting and the motive are still under investigation.
Rabbi Dubowe said continued conversation among people of all different races, religions, and beliefs is necessary to help prevent tragedies like Saturday in Pittsburgh.
