SPRINGFIELD – The day off from school Columbus Day was a day of learning for first responders in Springfield. They took part in “active shooter” training inside Springfield High School.
“It can happen anywhere. That’s a sign of the times we live in. I’m not happy about that as a citizen or as a fire chief,” says Springfield’s Allen Reyne, “but it’s the reality. We can’t ignore it. We can’t put our head in the sand, so that’s why we’re out here today.”
Reyne notes his own son attends Springfield High, which, like many of the district’s buildings, had numerous threats via phone call, social media, and graffiti last school year.
