New scholarship programs unveiled Thursday are designed to keep local students at Illinois State University.
In his annual State of the University address, ISU President Larry Dietz said a new scholarship program will award free tuition to five McLean County students for four years based on leadership, community service and civic engagement.
“Each year five McLean County students will win four years of free tuition through a competition based upon students leadership, community service, and civic engagement in this county,” said Dietz. “Each of these scholarships carry a present day value of $50,000.”
Dietz also said children and grandchildren of Illinois State alumni can receive some new financial aid.
“Beginning with this years application process, students who have a parent or grandparent who graduated from Illinois State will receive a $500 scholarship each year for up to four years,” said Dietz. “Our alumni proudly invest in this University and we want to do even more to reinvest in their loved ones.”
In his fifth address on the state of ISU, Dietz said the University has bucked the trend of declining enrollment seen at other universities in the state, and its financial position is solid.
