LEROY – Police in McLean County’s third largest community have assisted Chicago Police in solving a murder case.
LeRoy Police say they arrested Anthony Haynes, 30, of Chicago for drunken driving on June 28, and he turned out to be a suspect in the stabbing of a man on the city’s far south side earlier that day.
The victim, Jason Tidwell, 36, was reportedly found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds.
LeRoy Police say Haynes posted bond and was released from the McLean County Jail July 2. Weeks later, Chicago Police and officers from Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services came to LeRoy with a search warrant to look for evidence in the sport utility vehicle LeRoy Police impounded after the DUI arrest.
Haynes allegedly told police officers here that he was on his way to Mississippi when he was arrested for DUI. Police say U.S. Marshals went to Mississippi last Friday and arrested him.
He’s being extradited to Chicago to face the murder charge.
