PONTIAC – A new student will bounce between schools in District 90 and District 429 this year.
The city of Pontiac pushed through an approval for a Pontiac Police Officer to serve as a school resource officer.
The offier’s salary will be covered by both districts with the remaining amount paid by the PPD.
Having an armed presence in the schools is the basis of the new contract.
The officer will help divert students from the criminal justice system but will take enforcement action should the need arise.
The plan was given a unanimous decision by the council.
