LEXINGTON – A Chenoa woman was killed and another person was hurt when a car and a semi-trailer truck collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55, just south of Lexington early Friday evening.
A statement released by McLean County Coroner Kathy Davis said the 25-year old woman, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene about 7:10 Friday night. An autopsy is planned for Saturday.
Davis is withholding the Chenoa woman’s name until more family members are notified. Davis said she was wearing a seatbelt. A female passenger was being treated for injuries at an area hospital.
Authorities closed the southbound lanes of I-55, from Chenoa to Towanda, diverting traffic to Old U.S. Route 66.
The coroner’s office and Illinois State Police are investigating. They were aided at the scene by the McLean County Sheriff’s Department, and rescue crews from Normal, Lexington, and Towanda Fire Departments.
