BLOOMINGTON – A third person has entered the race for the District 8 McLean County board seat, which includes parts of Bloomington’s west side.
Cheryl Froelich, a District 8 resident for 17 years and optician for McLean County Eye Care, has the full backing of the McLean County Republican Party, according to a news release issued by Party Chairman Connie Beard.
Beard said Froelich has garnered three times the number of petition signatures required to place her name on the November ballot.
Froelich has two opponents, including Democrat Shayna Watchinski, who beat long-time incumbent Paul Segobiano in the March primary. Segobiano refuses to back Watchinski and has indicated he might endorse a Republican. Segobiano, who’s held the job since the 1970’s, has yet to formally endorse Froelich. She is not related to former county board chairman Nancy Froelich.
No Republicans ran in the primary.
The other person in the District 8 race is Libertarian Steve Suess.
