SPRINGFIELD – The state unemployment rate dropped slightly in March.
Illinois Department of Employment Security spokesman Bob Gough said Illinois hit its lowest unemployment rate in 11 years, coming in at 4.6 percent in March.
“The standout number is the number of unemployed in Illinois is at its lowest level since December of 2006,” Gough said.
Overall, the state lost about 2,100 jobs last month, although gains were made in financial activities, manufacturing and construction.
Illinois still trails the national average of 4.1 percent.
