NORMAL – A family from Normal has been temporarily displaced by a fire.
Fire crews were called to the home at 25 Ethell Parkway shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to respond to what fire officials called “an inferno blazing in the garage” above a bedroom.
The three people and two dogs who were there at the time of the fire, escaped unhurt.
“Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and had the main fire extinguished within about 15 minutes,” NFD spokesman Matt Swaney said in a news release. “There were additional hot spots extinguished in the attic and in the walls of the rooms above the garage. Crews performed searches of the entire home looking for any potential victims or pets that may not have made it out.”
Most of the damage was contained to the garage at the two-story split level home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Swaney said the home is insured. Residents planned to stay with friends on Wednesday night.
