NORMAL – The Town of Normal is expected to approve a handful of infrastructure projects at Monday night’s town council meeting.
The council is expected to approve bids for the improvements to Watkins Drive, the entrance to the Shoppes at College Hills, costing $187,812 as well as a water main replacement at Walnut Street and Mulberry Street which will cost $791,949; if the water main replacement is completed early, the construction company could receive an additional $15,000. As Normal City Manager Pamela Reece explained, the start of the new fiscal year means construction projects can begin. Reece said as we transition from winter to spring, construction projects will be underway soon.
“Those are driven largely by when the contractors have access to concrete and things like that,” Reece explained. “Concrete sets under certain temperatures, so it is largely weather driven.”
But infrastructure projects aren’t the only items on the agenda for the Normal Town Council. Reece also highlighted one project that should please local golfers – the purchase of golf equipment for a local course.
“There are certain things that now we can kick off, like construction season. The equipment items on the agenda are tied to Ironwood Golf Course because soon it will be golf season, so it just happens to be that time of year,” said Reece.
This will be Reece’s first meeting in her new position as City Manager. She said she’s excited to go from a more behind-the-scenes job to one in the spotlight.
