BLOOMINGTON – Healthy hearts are the focus of a joint effort between Advocate BroMenn Medical Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal.
The organizations are targeting Bloomington’s west side in particular, because people there might not have access to adequate health care.
Every Beat Counts is the first annual event dedicated to providing education and free health screenings to the families and neighbors of Boy and Girls Club members.
Advocate BroMenn’s John Hesse said building trust with community members is most important.
“Not just connect with, but take care of the communities we serve,” Hesse said. “If we’ve done nothing but say you know what go to your doc, go to your pediatrician go to where ever is your medical home. If any of these things resinate with you I think we’ve kind of done our job,” he added.
The program is part of Heart Month in the U.S.
