Prosecutor: Car burglaries increase as temperatures fall

PONTIAC – Certain crimes seem to be more prevalent when the weather gets colder, and Livingston County State’s Attorney Randy Yedinak says people need to be proactive so they don’t become victims.

The prosecutor says some of the most common crimes during winter are car break-ins:

“I would probably say out of 100 car burglaries, we have 99 of those cars were not locked,” Yedinak said. “They were wide open and people could just take whatever they want.”

Yedinak says the car burglary problem grows during winter because drivers start cars to warm them up, then go inside, leaving a great opportunity for crooks.
