BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A Bloomington woman was arrested after crashing her SUV into a home at least once.

Officers with the Bloomington Police Department were called to the 400 block of Douglas Street to a report of a motor-vehicle crash, said Bryce Janssen, a departmental spokesperson.

When officers arrived, they learned Gabriela Puente, 31, and a man had gotten into an altercation in the home, and she then got into a mid-size SUV and continued to drive it into the side of the house with the man standing in the yard, Janssen said.

Then, Janssen said, she allegedly back up again and drove at the house “at least one more time.”

Officers arrested her on charges of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and domestic battery and took her to the McLean County Jail, where she remained Tuesday afternoon, Janssen said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if she had been formally charged in court. There were no cases under her name in the county’s online records.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
