BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Mother’s Day is just days away, and the Kiwanis Club of Bloomington is hosting its annual Mother’s Day flower sale.

This is the 15th year the Kiwanis Club of Bloomington has held the Mother’s Day flower sale. Shoppers can peruse a variety of blooms ranging from flowers in patio pots or hanging baskets to veggies and herbs.

The proceeds go to Camp Limberlost, the club’s signature community service project. Jill Hutchinson with the Kiwanis Club of Bloomington said the community has been a great support.

“We’re super appreciative of the community because those who’ve been here in the past keep coming back,” Hutchinson said. “And they’re always looking for something special and that keeps this flower sale going to say the least, because there’s lots of places to buy flowers. But to support the kids in your community makes a difference.”

The flower sale is at the Shoppes at College Hills. If you missed out on shopping Wednesday, you have until Saturday to shop, but Hutchinson warns the earlier you shop, the better.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
