SPRINGFIELD – Jobs were up and the unemployment rate was down last month in Illinois.
The jobless rate fell slightly in May to 4.1 percent. 2,500 jobs were added as well.
“Overall, we are seeing indicators of continued economic stability, with continued job growth across industry sectors throughout the state,” said Illinois Department of Employment Security acting director Ray Marchiori. “And a consistent unemployment rate, including labor force participation rate higher than pre-pandemic levels.”
The largest job gains were seen in the financial activites, government, leisure and hospitality and education and health services sectors.
Losses were seen in the construction and manufacturing industiries.
