NORMAL – Town officials in Normal are seeking the publics input for plans to reconstruct certain areas of Vernon Avenue.
The upgrades to Vernon Avenue would be from West Beaufort Street to Towanda Avenue and intended to evaluate alternative transportation options. A project budget will be determined following the review process.
The study area includes multiple access points to Constitution Trail, Colene Hoose Elementary School and a new 16-acre natural playground.
Possible objectives under review are lowering speed limits and providing more cross walks for pedestrians.
The effort is intended to increases safety according to Ryan Otto, Director of Engineering and Public Works for the Town of Normal.
“Right now the pavement that is out there is nearing the end of its useful life. What we want to do as part of that process, is gather public input on what folks would like to see in terms of improvements,” Otto said.
A community meeting to gather input is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 6:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers and Room 409 at City Hall in Uptown Circle.
