NORMAL – Attorneys for more than 400 graduate student workers at Illinois State University have filed papers with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board initiating an unfair labor practice against the university and its board of trustees.
The complaint by the SEIU Local 73/ISU Graduate Workers Union alleges that the university and its agents violated the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Act by interfering with the graduate worker’s union right to meet with new bargaining unit employees and refusing to provide information requested by the union which they are entitled to under the above act.
The union asks the labor relations board to find the university in violation and asks that the university will cease and desist from interfering with the union’s legal right to meet with new employees and fulfills its obligation to provide relevant information on new employees,
In an email, the university acknowledged being aware of the complaint but has not been formally notified of the filing. The university says they deny the allegations contained in the complaint and look forward to defending its position before the labor relations board once formal notification is received.
