SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Democrats are pushing a proposed child tax credit.
“Families will receive (the credit) in cash, no strings attached, from the federal government to meet their immediate needs and put that money right back into the economy,” said State Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. (D-Chicago) at a news conference. “Sadly, Congress failed to make permanent the expanded at child tax credit. This is why we are stepping up here in Illinois. We want to be the example for the nation.”
State Sen. Mike Simmons (D-Chicago) grew up poor and said he knows what it is like to repeat meals because the family could not afford a full round of groceries.
