SPRINGFIELD – After the latest deposit, the state’s rainy day fund just surpassed $1 billion.
According to Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, the state’s fund is reaching record numbers.
“We want to make sure that it’s as big as possible because god forbid another economic downturn; you know you hear talk about a possible recession; we want to be prepared for whatever economic downturn comes our way.”
During the state’s budget impasse between 2015 and 2017, the rainy day fund was whittled down to about $48,000.
