SPRINGFIELD – For two hours Thursday morning, Springfield drivers at one gas station took a trip back in time. Gasoline was $2.38 a gallon, courtesy of Americans for Prosperity. That price, says AFP Illinois director Jason Heffley, is significant because that’s how much it cost the day President Biden was sworn into office.
“The inflationary policies we see out of Washington, be it reckless spending, out of control spending,” Heffley said, “or the top-down regulatory environment that was created, especially in the energy market, which has held back our energy production, which is causing gas prices to skyrocket. It’s almost remarkable; sixteen months ago it was half the price it is today.”
Heffley says AFP is a non-partisan organization, and that spending is a Republican as well as a Democratic problem.
The promotion, “The Cost of Washington,” has already gone on in Kankakee and Peoria, with southern Illinois yet to come.
