BLOOMINGTON – Gas prices are up across the country amid the Russia and Ukraine conflict. Here in Illinois, gas is up 14.8 cents over the week, averaging $3.85 a gallon.
According to GasBuddy, prices in the state are up 34 cents compared to last month, and a dollar more expensive compared to this time last year.
GasBuddy price reports show the cheapest station in Illinois is $3.28 while the most expensive is $4.69.
The national average is up seven cents over the week, averaging $3.59 a gallon.
“The Russian invasion of Ukraine has sparked high level concern that oil production could eventually be stifled, or even sanctioned, from the world’s second largest oil producer, leading to less supply as demand grows. That possibility has pushed up the national average price of gasoline considerably in the last week, and the situation could worsen at any time, keeping gas prices elevated for the foreseeable future,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
