BLOOMINGTON – One of the top electricity companies in central Illinois is warning of a new phone scam targeting users of their services.
In a new release, Corn Belt Energy said the phone scammers say they are from Ameren and that Corn Belt Energy recently merged with Ameren, and their account is past due.
Corn Belt Energy said they are not merging with another company and encourage their members not to give out personal information.
If you believe that you are a phone scam target, Corn Belt Energy encourages those scammed to contact the Illinois Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-386-5438.
