SPRINGFIELD – Slow down in the school zones!
A new law expands the hours during which you can be ticketed for speeding in a school zone. Even though the signs say, “When Children Are Present,” police could only issue tickets between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The law changes the beginning of that window to 6:30 a.m.
State Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield), the House sponsor, says students driving recklessly to and around high schools which begin class as early as 7 a.m. inspired the change.
The rule “When Children Are Present” still applies, according to the Illinois secretary of state’s office.
