BLOOMINGTON – The American Red Cross continues to experience a severe blood shortage during the summer months.
Red Cross spokesperson Drew Brown spoke with WJBC’s Marc Strauss.
“There is a great hospital demand for blood products, because as we are coming out of the pandemic, elective surgeries and organ transplants are being put back on the schedule, and a lot of those may need and require blood transfusions,” said Brown.
Right now, the Red Cross needs to collect more than 1,000 additional blood donations each day to meet current demand.
In most cases, those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine can donate.
