BLOOMINGTON – Heavy rainfall is expected throughout the weekend, leaving a possibility of flooding in its path.
So far, the National Weather Service of Central Illinois reports a total of 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain has fallen throughout today, Thursday.
Heart of Illinois ABC Chief Meteorologist Brian Walder told WJBC’s Marc Strauss that rain could be heavy at times.
“At least here in the short-term. We have a couple of features that are just kind of hanging out at the surface and not really moving too much. So that front is basically going to be a focal point for showers and storms to kind of form on and try to get these complexes that are going just ride along the front. There’s also an upper-level trough that’s just off to the west, and that’s not going to move.
So that’s going to bring air out of the south, so that’s going to bring moisture in. You add in those complexes riding along the front that’s just all going to equal multiple rounds of showers and storms here.”
Walder added that an additional rainfall of four to six inches is expected over the next couple of days.
As a result, minor flooding throughout Central Illinois is possible.
All of Central Illinois is under a flood advisory until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
