Illinois enters Phase 5 on Friday

BLOOMINGTON – As Illinois enters Phase 5 of the reopening plan Friday, public health officials are still encouraging people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight says while the number of vaccines administered has slowed down, progress is still being made. She spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“As a state, we are trying to get to 70% of adults having at least one dose by July 4, and we are on track for that,” McKnight told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “Here in McLean County, we’re nearing about 60% of adults with at least one dose. So even though it didn’t come in that initial flood it’s slow and steady wins the race. We’re still on track and still giving vaccines.”

Almost 43% of McLean County’s population have been fully vaccinated.

As for the mass vaccination site at Grossinger Motors Arena, McKnight says there are no plans in place to close that location. She says moving forward there may be fewer vaccine clinics per week.
