SPRINGFIELD – Doing little to discourage speculation he’s running for governor, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) Thursday slammed Gov. JB Pritzker and the Democrat-led redistricting process.
Appearing at a Springfield street corner to illustrate a proposed dividing line between two schools and an apartment building across the street, Davis and statehouse Republicans pointed to a Pritzker campaign promise to veto a partisan map.
“We see the end result of one-party rule here in our statehouse,” said Davis, “and it’s leading a governor who did not have to make this promise. Mo one twisted his arm to say what he said. No one told him, you have to make this pledge. No one told Gov. Pritzker when he was campaigning he needed to be in favor of a ‘fair map’ process.”
The Republicans say the map the legislature sent Pritzker last week is exactly the kind of map he should veto, if he is keeping his promise.
Congressional maps have not been drawn.
