BLOOMINGTON – The need is still high for food donations at the Salvation Army food pantry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Angie Bubon, Development Director for the Bloomington Salvation Army, told WJBC’s Scott Miller the pantry needs food and volunteers.
“We did open the pantry back for people coming into the pantry; we were doing like a drive-thru. And now people who are visiting the pantry are able to come in, and we call it ‘shop.’ So basically, we have stuff out, and they can kind of pick items they want as supposed to getting a prepacked bag. Because of that, we’ve extended our hours, so it’s now Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. So if you want to visit our pantry, if you are in need, those are the times that you can come. But because we have extended those hours, that just means more help is needed.”
Bubon added the biggest need at the food pantry are prepackaged meals and packets such as mac and cheese for families.
“We’re always in need of food donations. You know, specifically like Ramen (noodles), mac and cheese, taco seasoning packings that things like that, that are good for making family meals. But, we’re excited we were able to safely let people back in the building, so they have a little more choice of what they get at the pantry to suit their needs.”
The pantry, located at 611 W. Washington Street in Bloomington, needs latex gloves, toilet paper, cleaning items, hygiene products, and disposable take-home bowls and containers.
