SPRINGFIELD – The top Illinois Senate Republican says Gov. JB Pritzker ought to authorize an independent mapmaking commission.
Denying this is about building Republican numbers – they’re now a superminority in Springfield and hold only five of eighteen U.S. House seats – minority leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) took his shots at Pritzker,
“As the governor, he has the ability to lead and the authority to act,” McConchie told reporters in his Capitol office Wednesday. “Unfortunately, he is simply running away into the darkness of partisan politics. When asked (Tuesday) about redistricting, the governor hilariously said the Republicans were just saying No and not really engaging.”
McConchie says committees have invited the governor to no avail.
