NORMAL – The Town of Normal will open both of its aquatic centers in late May after being closed last summer due to the pandemic.
Normal Parks and Recreation Director Doug Damery says there will be some modifications as all pool patrons will need a reservation. Damery says the reservations will be in two-hour blocks, with each aquatic center allowing a capacity of 18%.
“We just want to make sure we are within the compliance of the guidelines that have been established,” Damery told WJBC’s Marc Strauss. “We want people to be comfortable and hopefully everyone can enjoy their time, feel safe, and everybody gets a chance to enjoy it. That’s why the two-hour block, a pretty good amount of time at the pool, then we’ll empty it and allow for a new group to come in.”
Damery says some of the opening plans could change depending on guidelines established by the state.
Fairview Aquatic Center will open May 29, while Anderson Aquatic Center opens up June 5.
