McLean County receiving IDOT grants to assist with truck route improvements

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation on Monday announced McLean County will be receiving additional state grants to assist with truck routes.

The 8-mile Ill. Route 122 project will receiving $366,300 from the state for its $1.3 million project on the McLean and Tazewell County line.

The $6-million, 11-mile project at Meadows Road for the U.S. Route 24 connecting truck route will be receiving $517,000 from IDOT to assist with the project.

The grants are made possible through IDOT’s Truck Access Route Program, which allows counties, municipalities and townships to apply for assistance in upgrading roads to accommodate 80,000-pound trucks and become designated truck routes.

A maximum of $900,000 can be awarded to projects that improve connections to other designated truck routes and businesses that generate truck traffic.
