SPRINGFIELD – A political science professor emeritus at the University of Illinois Springfield campus looks ahead to Gov. JB Pritzker’s budget address Wednesday.
What to expect?
“A lot of uncertainty,” said Kent Redfield. “We are in really, really bad shape because of where we started out two years ago, and now we have the impacts of the pandemic and not getting the increased revenue the governor was antcipating from the graduated income tax (proposal, which failed), so the uncertainty is going to involve what heppens with the federal stimulus package.”
Gov. Pritzker’s office has said there will not be a tax increase or a new tax, but Redfield wonders how long he can hold to that line.
