BLOOMINGTON – Hyvee is now offering Covid-19 rapid testing, but it’s not free and it’s not for everyone.
It’s an antigen test, which looks for proteins associated with the virus. A Hyvee spokesperson tells us customers should have their results within hours of driving away from the store.
“This is certainly a convenience,” Christina Gayman, the company’s public relations director, says. “Rapid antigen testing results are available within 1-2 hours versus PCR molecular testing which could be 3-5 business days before you would have your results.”
There is a price for that convenience – $129, due up front. Gayman says the pharmacy cannot bill insurance for the test.
It’s also only available to people who’ve had symptoms or contact with a confirmed positive in the last 14 days.
To get a rapid test, you must register on Hyvee’s website. The tests are performed in a drive-thru setting at participating stores Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
